Berlin City Tours organizes intercultural and international exchange projects for students.

Our new projects have as main goal to learn cultures and backgrounds of a city or country by getting in interaction with people. We prefer interaction as a learning method!  We achieve that by stimulating an active and open communication between the students and for instance local students, guides or artists:  people who somehow make a contribution to the cultural and historical part of the city.  Beside it, all our projects are student-tailored. In our projects it is the guides who follow the students, instead of students following the guide! Therefore we organize activities by which an interactive participation of the students is asked. Our employees will stimulate the student to think by himself and give his opinion and will follow the interests of the students. Our pedagogically skilled employees are always searching  to new and creative learning methods and activities to achieve this.

Further we eventually offer an online interactive learning platform, where students get acquainted with the history, the inhabitants and with the other partnerschool students, while preparing their project.

And of course we always search accommodation, catering and transportation in the best value for your money!

Some possible activities:

      Graffiti, Rap and Breakdance workshops with the possibility to make their  own graffiti-art and/or a Rap-videoclip.  The students will get a lively video-documentation of the trip;

     Visit of the former concentration camp Sachsenhausen, former Stasi-jail Hohenschönhausen and the Jewish Museum with eventual workshops;

    Program

    Day 1

    After the arrival at the hostel, the students will get a introduction of the program of the next days by their Schoolclash-Tutor. Subsequently they are going to visit the centre of Berlin. You can choose between two possibilities: In the first place we could arrange a guided tour through the centre of Berlin with a focus on the history of the Second World war and the Cold war in Berlin. The guide will explain the history of the most famous buildings and sight like the Bundestag, Brandenburger Tor and Checkpoint Charly. As alternative program we could arrange a SMS-tour through the same district, where the students will discover the most famous sights in a playful way: they will search the destinations on photos and answering historical questions by SMS. In the evening you will have a diner buffet in one of the Turkish restaurants in Kreuzberg.

    Day 2:

    Day 2 is about the  Cold war and the era of the German Democratic Republic.  In the morning you will visit the Eastside Gallery. This part of the former Berlin Wall was, after the fall of the wall, painted by approximately 100 artists. It has become an international memorial for freedom. The students will choose the most interesting wall painting, the one they like the most and will analyze these in small groups with one of our guides.  After this the students will have some free time near the Karl Marx Allee, a monumental socialist boulevard built by the GDR between 1952 and 1960 with a lot of architectural monumental buildings.  In the afternoon they will get a guided tour through the former Stasi-jail by a former inmate, who also relate the tour to their own experience in the remand prison.  In the evening you will have diner in one of the restaurants in Kreuzberg and subsequently the student will watch the movie ‘Sonnenallee’ , this humorous German movie takes place in Berlin during the GDR-era.

    Day 3:

    Option 1: Streetart

    In the morning the students will get a Graffiti- and Rap workshop with the possibility to make their own Graffiti-art and/or a rap-videoclip. The students will get a lively videodocumentation of the trip. Afterwards they will have free time near Schlesische Tor to take a lunch. In the afternoon they will visit Kreuzberg in small groups guided by local youth from this lively and multicultural district. In the evening the students will have diner in the centre of Berlin. Afterwards they will visit Berlin by Night.

    Option 2: Second World WarIn the morning the student will go to Oranienburg. They will get a guided tour through the former Concentration Camp Sachsenhausen. Sachsenhausen-Oranienburg was a Nazi concentration camp in Oranienburg, used primarily for political prisoners from 1936 to the end of the Third Reich in May, 1945. Afterwards they will get a guided tour and workshop in the Jewish Museum. Here the story of Coco Schumann - who experienced social exclusion and rightlessness as a young Jew in Berlin - is interactively and excitingly relayed. At the age of 18 he was deported first to the Theresienstadt ghetto and then to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, which he survived as musician to the guards. Numerous documentary film clips as well as pictures, texts, and audio recordings give a powerful insight into his life and survival. In the evening the students will have diner in the centre of Berlin. Afterwards they will visit Berlin by Night.

    Day 4

    In the morning we will evaluate the last 3 days together and subsequently the student will have free time to buy their souvenirs. Further we like to recommend other temporary exhibitions or events.
